Software adjustments made by Samsung Electronics enabled Samsung TV owners in Lithuania to access HiTV, a hybrid TV platform, provided by Telecentras, terrestrial TV network operator in Lithuania.
Hybrid Broadcast Broadband Television (HbbTV) connects terrestrial free-to-air TV with the Internet platform, through which consumers can reach TV multimedia libraries, archives, radio live broadcasts and other video and online content. To watch hybrid television content, consumers need smart TV sets with an active HbbTV function and the internet connection of the required speed (10 Mbps).
Consumers with HbbTV enabled TVs can easily manage this additional content with a TV remote control, and, unlike Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), it does not require a special streaming box and a special remote control.
“Hybrid television offers a possibility for smart TV owners to watch TV and video content in a more comfortable manner, including at a delayed time and, most importantly, free of charge. After Samsung, which is the undisputed leader in the Lithuanian smart TV market, joined the local HbbTV club, we expect a big breakthrough in the use of the HiTV platform,” claims Remigijus Šeris, CEO of the Telecentras.
“We are happy to collaborate with Telecentras and offer HbbTV possibility for Samsung TV users. From now on, because of HbbTV, they will be able to effortlessly try out additional benefits of Smart TV functions and comfortably enjoy high quality TV content both on real time and at any time convenient.” Says Miroslavas Ramanavičius, Head of TV sales at Samsung Electronics Baltics.
The list of Samsung models that allow the use of the HiTV platform as well as activation instructions for users are available on the website hitv.lt.
